Our Story
From handmade Kanhaji dresses made as gifts, to a growing collection of crochet creations — this is how it began, and how it's still growing.
At the heart of it is Sudha, whose crochet journey began simply as a hobby, and slowly became something a lot of people have come to love.

It began with Kanhaji
Around 2023–24, Sudha began making handmade crochet dresses and outfits for Kanhaji idols. It began as a hobby.
She made the first few dresses for friends and family and gave them away, without charging anything. She'd spend hours experimenting with each one, working out the shapes and patterns by hand, just to see a friend's Kanhaji dressed a little differently.
People noticed. Friends started asking if she could make another design, or try a particular style they'd seen. What she made for people she loved slowly turned into something people started asking for.
Her first order wasn't really an order at all.
One of her friends placed ₹200 in front of the Kanhaji idol at home — not as payment, but to receive a blessing. Sudha didn't know what she should do with that money, so she crocheted a Kanhaji dress and gifted it to her friend.
When people started asking for more
As more friends asked for dresses, someone suggested she start an Instagram page to show what she was making. Sudha made the account and began posting photos of the Kanhaji dresses she'd finished.
People started finding her work through Instagram, and messages began coming in — on WhatsApp, through calls, through comments. She'd make the dress and send it by courier or post. There was no big plan behind any of it. People simply liked what she made, and asked for more.

Slowly, the requests started going beyond Kanhaji dresses. Someone would send a reel, a YouTube video, a photo they'd seen somewhere, or just describe an idea — and ask if Sudha could make it.
She'd study the design, work out how it was put together, try it herself, and make it by hand. A lot of what Suvinay Creations makes today exists because a customer saw something, somewhere, and asked a simple question: can you make this?
From one kind of creation to many
That habit of saying yes and figuring it out is a big part of why the catalogue looks the way it does today. What began with Kanhaji dresses grew, one request at a time, into crochet flowers and bouquets, hair accessories, keychains, purses, sling bags, and more. Very little of it was planned in advance — most of it started with someone asking, and Sudha learning.
Made by hand, with a small team
Sudha still leads every design herself. She now works alongside a small group of workers who help her bring each order to life, but every piece we make is still made by hand — the same way the very first Kanhaji dress was.
Today
We still take most orders the way we always have — through WhatsApp, after someone sees something they like. This website is a new step for us, not a replacement for that. It's simply an easier way to explore the collection before picking up the same conversation on WhatsApp.
The Name
Suvinay is a name born from two names close to the family — Sudha and Vinay. It's where the
brand's name comes from, and it's carried quietly into everything made under it since.
What started with a few handmade dresses for a Kanhaji idol is still guided by the same thing today: making something carefully, by hand, for someone who will genuinely value it.
